Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.

The Holy Bible tells us to thank God at all times. We may ask ourselves why we should thank God when our desires aren’t fulfilled. Logically it doesn’t make sense to thank someone for nothing.

So why does the Bible tell us to thank God even when opportunities are withdrawn?

King David had a very special desire. He wanted to build a house (church) for the Lord. There is no human reason for a desire as noble to be rejected. Yet, the Lord did not fulfill David’s desire.

Most people would think God is against them in a situation as such. Then why did David praise and thank God?

King David knew that God shut the door on his plans because only God could see what was behind the door. And he trusted God completely, knowing that “God works for the good of those who love Him.” – Romans 8:28

Even when doors were shut, David praised and thanked God. His attitude unlocked God’s promises over his entire family, so much so that his son, Solomon, built the Temple of God.

Do we have a similar mindset?

God closes doors just as often as he opens them for us. He is not just a God who blesses us, but a God who protects us from untoward situations that are disguised as opportunities. Only God knows what lies behind closed doors.

So, next time when a door is closed, let’s thank God for His unending protection. It will not just open other doors, but bring down walls that keep us from God’s promises.
